HOW TO APPLY
In today’s legislative culture of the construction industry, there are many things you need to be aware of when running a business. To breach legal requirements can be very, very expensive and even incur a prison sentence.
The Health & Safety Act 1974 requires an employer to ensure ‘as far as reasonably practicable’ the health and safety of its employees
while at work. It also requires the provision of instruction and training.
A written Health & Safety Policy is required if you employ 5 or more people.
The Work at Height Regulations requires all work to be planned and supervised. Any fall of a distance that may cause personal injury
is classified as work at height.
The Control of Asbestos Regulations requires training to be provided for all persons likely to come into contact with materials
containing asbestos. This includes roofers.
Risk Assessment should be applied to every task and details included in a Method Statement.
The Construction Design and Management Regulations 2015 now applies to domestic properties.
We have historically been funded by the CITB and received an annual grant from them to allocate to our members to help subsidise the cost of training. The CITB have undergone a massive grant reform and our training group has now been advised that as of the 1st April the funding we receive will change.
We have been awarded 59k to provide free and heavily subsidised training for our members from April to March 2020.
Additionally, training Group membership is also free!. It offers a number of benefits, not least the opportunity for low-cost training and NVQ assessments. The group is dedicated to providing quality, tailored, training and qualifications for its members. Training is also available to non-members, either roofers or non-roofers, because we believe that quality training and safety advice should be available to everyone who needs it. Manufacturers, trade association representatives and local training providers can also be associate members of the Training Group.
